Macomb’s Bednard, Tech’s Halonen named WCHA weekly stars

By @MichaelCaples –

Another week, another WCHA weekly award for Ryan Bednard.

For the second time this month, the Macomb native and Bowling Green netminder has been named the WCHA’s goaltender of the week.

This time around, Bednard helped his now No. 4-ranked Falcons to an undefeated week. He played in three games this past week – one against then-No. 19 Western Michigan and two against then-No. 4 Ohio State and he gave up just three goals, recording a 1.62 goals-against average, 73 saves and a .936 save percentage.

Bednard stopped 19 of 20 shots sent his way by the Broncos, then he stopped 54 of the 58 he saw in two games against the Buckeyes.

Meanwhile, Michigan Tech rookie forward Brian Halonen received some conference recognition, as well.

The Delano, Minn., native led WCHA rookies with four points on the weekend, as MTU earned a road split with then-No. 14 Wisconsin.

He had a pair of assists in Friday’s 6-2 win, then he scored his first NCAA goal (and added another assist) in Saturday’s contest.
