Larkin, Rymsha named NCHC players of the week

A pair of Michigan boys playing in Oxford had a good weekend, and they’ve been rewarded by their college hockey conference.

Miami RedHawks teammates Ryan Larkin and River Rymsha were named the NCHC’s goaltender and defenseman of the week, respectively, this Monday afternoon.

Larkin, a Clarkston native and junior netminder, recorded a shutout in Miami’s 4-0 win over Alabama Huntsville on Saturday. The 11-save shutout was Larkin’s third as a college hockey netminder. A Honeybaked alum, Larkin was one of only three goaltenders to record a perfect weekend to start the season.

Rymsha, meanwhile, started his season with the RedHawks in similar fashion. The Huntington Woods native – a graduate transfer from Dartmouth – recorded an assist in the first goal of the season for Miami on Saturday; then he helped his squad limit Huntsville to one goal on 18 shots. In Sunday’s rematch, he scored the game-winner on a one-timer blast. Rymsha also added an assist later in the contest.

His three-point outing matched his season stats line from 2017-18; looks like big things are in store for the Little Caesars and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s product.
