From black and gold to Maize and Blue.

Hunter Brzustewicz has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan.

A 2004 birth-year player, Brzustewicz is regarded as one of the top defensemen in his class.

“I picked Michigan because it’s a great school and close to home,” Brzustewicz told MiHockey. “When I asked people about Michigan, they say everything’s great, nothing bad about it. I just feel at home there and the coaches are awesome – real good guys.”

The Washington, Mich., native – a student at the Total Package Hockey Center of Excellence – helped lead Honeybaked to the 2018 13U Tier 1 state title this past spring.

His favorite player is becoming a household name in Ann Arbor.

“My favorite player is Quinn Hughes, and he goes to Michigan,” Brzustewicz said. “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be like him when I grow up.”

When the puck drops on the 2018-19 season, Brzustewicz will be starting his seventh season with the Honeybaked organization; before that, he skated for the Troy Sting. All along, he’s been eyeballing Yost Ice Arena and hoping for the chance to play for the Wolverines.

“It’s been my dream school since I was little, when I first stepped onto the ice,” Brzustewicz said.
