Charity game to take place at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s this Sunday

Kyle LaVergne is hoping his extended hockey family can help out a loved one this weekend.

On Sunday, the Waterford native is hosting a charity game at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s to raise money for Kara Marmion, his best friend’s mother.

‘Kara’s Game’ will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of OLSM, as a collection of pro, college and junior players will gather for a friendly contest designed to raise funds for Marmion and her family.

Marmion has been fighting stage 4 lung cancer since 2016, and she has been unable to work since her diagnosis.

“I decided to organize the game so that the money raised could help her with her medical bills,” LaVergne, a Aquinas College, Atlanta Capitals and Metro Jets product, told MiHockey. “See, she can’t really be left alone anymore – with her son going off to school and her husband working full-time, they need extra help. That is where all the proceeds from ‘Kara’s Game’ will be going to.”

Participants in the game include Austin Czarnik (Calgary Flames), Chris Mueller (Toronto Maple Leafs), Brandon Hawkins (Northeastern), Kali Flanagan (U.S. Women’s Olympic Team), Jhuwon Davis (Metro Jets), Butrus Ghafari (Michigan State), Carson Bayoff (Little Caesars), Chris Cameron (Barrie Colts) and George Hansen (Gustavus Adolphus College/Metro Jets), among others.
