Red Wings’ 2018-19 home opener set for Oct. 4

By @MichaelCaples –

The first of 41 games at Little Caesars Arena is set for Oct. 4.

Today, the NHL announced the home openers for all 31 member franchises, and the Red Wings will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second home opener at their new building.

Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. for the latest edition of the Dylan Larkin vs. Zach Werenski battle, as the Wings not-so-subtly teased with their announcement graphic.

It’s the first time the Wings open against their Ohio neighbors.

Events surrounding the home opener will be announced at a later date. The full NHL schedule will be unveiled tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET.

Detroit will also serve as the opponent for the Anaheim Ducks’ home opener on Oct. 8 for sentimental reasons. After being the first team to take on the Ducks when the franchise began a quarter of a century ago on Oct. 8, 1993, they will help Anaheim kick off the festivities for the California club’s 25th anniversary season…on Oct. 8 once again.
