By @StefanKubus –

While it will be clear in the coming days which of the Red Wings players will be heading to the 2018 IIHF Men’s World Championship, today it was announced that Team USA will have a group of familiar faces on the coaching staff.

Detroit Red Wings head coach and Sault Ste. Marie native Jeff Blashill has been named head coach of Team USA for a second consecutive year, while Michigan State alum, Cheboygan native and Red Wings video coach Adam Nightingale has been named video coordinator.

“We’re excited to have Jeff back leading our team,” 2018 U.S. Men’s National Team general manager Bill Zito said in a release. “He did an excellent job last year and I know he’s looking forward to building on that. In addition, we’ve got a great group of assistant coaches and support staff that will represent our country well in Denmark.”

Additionally, USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program coach Seth Appert will serve as an assistant coach to Blashill, as will Grand Haven native and former NHL head coach Dan Bylsma.

The tournament takes place May 4-20 in Herning and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Last year, Team USA fell to Finland in the tournament quarterfinals, 2-0.
