DETROIT – One day after it was announced that he will be coaching Team USA at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, it was confirmed that Jeff Blashill will have the same role with the Red Wings next season.

Detroit general manager Ken Holland confirmed today that Jeff Blashill will be back behind the Red Wings’ bench for the 2018-19 season.

The Wings finished with a 30-39-13 record in the 2017-18 season.

Blashill, a Sault Ste. Marie native and Ferris State alum, holds a career mark of 104-105-37 in three seasons with the Red Wings.

Prior to joining the Wings – a team he worked for as an assistant coach for one season – Blashill guided the Grand Rapids Griffins for three seasons, leading Detroit’s AHL affiliate to a Calder Cup championship in 2012-13.

Stay tuned for more from the Red Wings’ locker room clean-out day…
