Zach Werenski sets Blue Jackets franchise record in 4-1 win on Tuesday

By @StefanKubus –

With a go-ahead goal at 8:01 of the second period in Tuesday’s game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Vegas Golden Knights, Zach Werenski fired his way into the record books.

The Grosse Pointe Woods native potted his 13th goal of the season, blowing a one-timer past Vegas netminder Marc-Andre Fleury off an Artemi Panarin feed. The goal not only proved to be the game winner (4-1 final), but also set a Blue Jackets franchise record for most goals by a defenseman in a single season.

The University of Michigan alum’s 13 goals top his rookie-season mark of 11. Werenski now has 30 points in 63 games in his sophomore campaign.
