By @StefanKubus –

The Detroit Red Wings will be without veteran defenseman Mike Green the rest of the way out.

The Wings announced that Green will undergo neck surgery on his cervical spine and will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Green missed seven games spanning Feb. 17-28 with the injury before returning to the Detroit lineup on March 2 in Winnipeg.

Per the Red Wings, he re-aggravated the injury during the team’s practice on March 21.  The surgery is set for April 5 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.  Green is expected to recover in two months.

Green, 32, leads all Detroit blue liners in assists (25) and points (33) through 66 games. Green is also a pending unrestricted free agent.
