Michigan captain Tony Calderone named NCAA first star of the week

By @MichaelCaples –

Tony Calderone just kept putting his name on the scoresheet.

Now, he’s college hockey’s first star.

The Wolverines’ captain has been named the No. 1 star of the week after playing a substantial role in Michigan’s sweep of Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.

Calderone, a Trenton native, recorded four goals – yes, four – in Michigan’s 6-5 win on Friday, including the game-winner.

He followed that up with two assists – including one on the game-winner – in Saturday’s 7-4 series-clinching win.

Calderone now has 39 points on the season.
