Cam Johnson signs contract with New Jersey Devils

By @MichaelCaples –

Cam Johnson played only one year of AAA hockey growing up.

After already adding ‘college hockey national champion’ to his resume, he can now add ‘member of an NHL organization’ too.

The Troy native has signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils, the NHL franchise announced today.

That comes on the heels of Johnson concluding his college career with North Dakota; in four seasons, he finished as UND’s all-time leader in career goals-against average (2.10), second in career shutouts (12), and fourth in wins (56) and career save percentage (.916).

He led North Dakota to a national title in 2016, as well – which included a victory over the University of Michigan to reach the Frozen Four.

He will be signing an amateur tryout agreement with the Devils’ AHL affiliate in Binghamton, and his NHL contract with begin in the 2018-19 season.
