Recruiting: Hunter Wendt commits to Ferris State

By @MichaelCaples –

He’s skating in Alaska right now, but pretty soon, Hunter Wendt will be a heck of a lot closer to home.

The Troy native and Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward has committed to Bob Daniels and the Ferris State hockey program for the upcoming season.

“I chose Ferris State because it felt like the right fit for me,” Wendt told MiHockey. “The coaching staff has been very good to me, and I’m close to home, which is awesome.”

The Oakland Jr. Grizzlies and Belle Tire alum will have close friend Coale Norris in Big Rapids to help him as a freshman in 2018-19. He might just have an opportunity to compete against his cousin, as well; Dylan Wendt is a University of Michigan verbal commitment.

“I have a couple close friends on the team, Coale Norris, so I had a few conversations about the school with him and he said nothing but good things,” Wendt said. “I’m very excited for this opportunity.”

This season – his second in the NAHL – Wendt has 42 points in 44 games for the Ice Dogs.
