Ferris State’s Maloney, Norris win WCHA weekly awards

By @MichaelCaples –

Ferris State recorded a weekend sweep of in-state rival Lake Superior State this past weekend, and two of the Bulldogs are being recognized by WCHA for their efforts in the pair of victories.

Mitch Maloney has been named the WCHA offensive player of the week, while Coale Norris has been named the rookie of the week.

Maloney, a senior forward from Macomb, made the most of his last regular-season games with the Bulldogs, posting two multi-point outings and a +5 rating over the weekend. He set up the game-winner on Friday, then scored the game-winner on Saturday. It’s Maloney’s second weekly award.

Norris, meanwhile, led all WCHA rookies with three goals, three points and a +3 rating during the time period. A freshman from Oxford, Norris had the game-sealing empty-netter on Friday before a pair of goals on Saturday. It’s his second weekly award of the season, as well.
