Red Berenson to be Hobey Baker Award Legend of College Hockey recipient

By @MichaelCaples –

Add another honor to Red Berenson’s resume.

The longtime bench boss for the Michigan Wolverines is the 2018 Hobey Baker Award Foundation Legend of College Hockey recipient.

The ‘Legend of College Hockey’ award is presented annually to honor all-time great contributors to the sport at the collegiate level.

Berenson will receive the award on May 28 in St. Paul, Minn., at the annual Hobey Baker Award Banquet.

He’s the third UM coach to be honored, joining Vic Heyliger (1982) and Al Renfrew (1990).

Berenson retired after the 2016-17 season, but continues to work in the hockey department at his alma mater. He has raised more than $20 million in his quest to endow all Michigan Ice Hockey Scholarships.
