Jonathan Waring’s on his way to Massachusetts.

The Farmington Hills native has committed to UMass Lowell in time to play for the River Hawks in the 2017-18 season.

I chose UMass Lowell because I believe it was the best fit for me as a student athlete,” Waring told MiHockey. “Their program has been top notch ever since I have put skates on and they have all the resources I need to develop on and off the ice.”

The ’96 birth-year defenseman spent the 2016-17 season with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL, logging 37 points in 54 games.

He’s a Belle Tire and Rochester Jr. Americans alum, as well.

Waring told MiHockey that he’s excited to have a chance to play for Norm Bazin and the rest of the River Hawks’ coaching staff.

“The coaching staff is very well known for the great job they have done and I believe they will help me grow as a player and a man throughout my college career,” Waring said.
