The Red Wings are heading back to Sweden for their second pick of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Detroit claimed defenseman Gustav Lindstrom at No. 38 overall, after taking center Michael Rasmussen in the first round Friday night.

Lindstrom was ranked the No. 25 European skater heading into the draft after being ranked No. 32 at the midterm.

A native of Ostervala, Sweden, he checks in at 6-foot-2 and 187 pounds, and he’s a right-handed shot.

Skating for Almtuna of the secondary Swedish pro league, he posted nine points in 48 games.

He’s a bit of a surprise, based off of some of the notable ranking systems. Hockeyprospect.com had him at No. 109, while ISS Hockey had him at No. 159. TSN and Bob McKenzie had him at No. 85.
