The Detroit Red Wings are continuing to re-sign players that played critical roles in the Grand Rapids Griffins’ 2017 AHL championship.

Yesterday, it was Ben Street. Today, it’s Brian Lashoff and Dylan McIlrath.

The Wings signed the two defensemen to two-year extensions, securing both through the 2018-19 season.

Lashoff, 26, was a free-agent acquisition of the Red Wings’ organization after playing for the Barrie Colts of the OHL in juniors. Since 2009, he has appeared in 122 NHL games with the Wings, recording 13 points. Last year in Grand Rapids, he played in 62 contests, recording 11 points.

McIlrath, 25, was acquired in the Thomas Vanek trade with Florida. The former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning has played in 43 NHL games, 34 of which came during the 2015-16 season.

He was a mainstay on the Griffins’ blue line during their run to the Calder Cup championship, appearing in 19 contests and finishing with a +10 rating.
