The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday that Luke Glendening underwent successful surgery on his left ankle to repair tendon damage.

The procedure was performed on Monday by Dr. Don Bohay in Glendening’s hometown of Grand Rapids. The 28-year-old forward suffered a fractured ankle and partially-torn tendons, which caused him to miss the final seven games of the 2016-17 season. He is projected to recover in three to four months, which could potentially see him return in time for the Wings’ season opener.

“The surgery was done to repair an injury he suffered late in the season,” said Red Wings general manager Ken Holland in a press release. “We hoped he would improve with rest and immobilization, but we decided at this point that surgery was necessary to make sure he is ready for the 2017-18 season.”

Glendening, a Michigan Wolverines alum, posted 14 points in 74 games last season for Detroit, providing defensive depth up front.
