Home ice has its benefits.

On Sunday night, host team Windsor won the 2017 Memorial Cup, beating the Erie Otters 4-3 in an all-OHL final game at the WFCU Centre.

“My guys are amazing,” Windsor head coach Rocky Thompson said after the game. “We saw what they’ve gone through here. We witnessed what they had to go through during that break. It’s an amazing feeling and an amazing thing that those guys did.

“Everybody bought in no matter who it was, staff, management, ownership and the players. They’re champions for a reason – they’re amazing.”

Three Michigan natives skated for the Spitfires in the final contest – Luke Boka (Plymouth), Jalen Chatfield (Ypsilanti) and Sean Day (Rochester).

NTDP alum Jeremy Bracco posted a goal and two assists – he was named first star of the game.

Boka finished with a +1 rating in four games; Chatfield a +2. Day recorded one assist and a +3.
