The playoff disappointment continued for the Washington Capitals Wednesday night, as the Pittsburgh Penguins knocked out their Eastern Conference rivals in Game 7 of Round 2.

Pontiac native and NTDP alum Bryan Rust opened the scoring for Pittsburgh, and his tally proved to be the game’s winning goal, as the Pens took a 2-0 victory.

For Rust, who has thrived this postseason while primarily playing with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel, it was his fifth¬†goal of the postseason. It’s not the first time he has thrived on the big stage for the Penguins, either; last year, he scored twice in a Game 7 that sent the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Final.

More on that big night right here.
