The playoff disappointment continued for the Washington Capitals Wednesday night, as the Pittsburgh Penguins knocked out their Eastern Conference rivals in Game 7 of Round 2.

Pontiac native and NTDP alum Bryan Rust opened the scoring for Pittsburgh, and his tally proved to be the game’s winning goal, as the Pens took a 2-0 victory.

For Rust, who has thrived this postseason while primarily playing with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel, it was his fifth goal of the postseason. It’s not the first time he has thrived on the big stage for the Penguins, either; last year, he scored twice in a Game 7 that sent the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Final.

More on that big night right here.
