Another member of the Grand Rapids Griffins squad may get a look in the Red Wings lineup.

The Wings announced Friday that they’ve recalled forward Matt Lorito from Grand Rapids.

Lorito, 26, has had an impressive offensive season with the Griffins, having posted 21 goals and 54 points in 59 games. That’s the same amount of points he tallied last season in Albany, but in 12 fewer games.

With Andreas Athanasiou’s status in question for Saturday’s game against Montreal, Lorito may have the chance to make his NHL debut in the second-to-last home game at Joe Louis Arena.

The 5-foot-9 Oakville, Ontario native spent the past two seasons in the New Jersey Devils organization with Albany in the AHL before joining the Wings on a two-year, two-way deal this past summer. Prior to joining the pro ranks, Lorito spent four seasons with Brown University.
