Ryder Rolston said he picked his college hockey program for what they do off the ice as much as on it.

The Birmingham native and Little Caesars 16U forward is heading to Notre Dame for his NCAA career.

“It’s an honor to be committed to such a prestigious institution like the University of Notre Dame,” Rolston told MiHockey. “I am really excited to able to continue my development under Coach [Jeff] Jackson and to be in a challenging academic environment, as well.”

The son of Michigan hockey great Brian Rolston, Ryder was an invite to USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program evaluation camp as one of the top players in the 2001 birth-year class.

The Rolston family is certainly familiar with the coach Ryder has committed to; Brian Rolston played for Jeff Jackson when Jackson was leading Lake Superior State.
