Paul Cotter certainly made an impact in his North American Hockey League rookie season.

And on Wednesday, he was awarded for it, as the league crowned the 17-year-old Canton native with its Rookie of the Year honors.

Cotter, a forward, posted 28 goals and 60 points in 59 games with his Brookings Blizzard in South Dakota. His 60 points not only led his team, but was good for sixth among all NAHL skaters.

A Little Caesars and Compuware alum, Cotter is currently committed to play for Western Michigan back in his home state.
