Wyandotte’s Gerald Mayhew signs contract with AHL’s Iowa Wild

As the high school state finals ramp up, a former Mr. Hockey winner is making the jump to the pro ranks.

With Ferris State’s season coming to an end this past weekend, senior forward Gerald Mayhew has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Iowa Wild, AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

This past season, the Wyandotte native potted 35 points in 33 games to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. His 17 goals marked a career-best, while his 41 points in 41 games as a junior stand as a career-high.

During his four-year career with Ferris State, Mayhew – a 2017 Hobey Baker Award candidate – helped lead the Bulldogs to two NCAA Final Eight appearances along with a WCHA regular-season and playoff championship. He finished his collegiate career with 52 goals and 119 points in 150 games.

In 2011, Mayhew was named Mr. Hockey as Michigan’s top high school player while he skated for Wyandotte-Roosevelt. He helped lead the school to its first-ever state title of any kind and was the first to take home Mr. Hockey honors.
