The Western Michigan Broncos have been one of the hottest teams in the country, and their captain has played a big role in their success.

Macomb native Sheldon Dries racked up a NCHC-best 11 points in February, helping WMU to a 5-1-2 record in the calendar month. In doing so, he has been named the conference’s player of the month.

The Broncos have secured their first home-ice NCHC quarterfinal series in program history last weekend.

Dries, a three-time captain, tallied points in seven of the Broncos’ eight games, while posting a +7 rating and 31 shots on goal.

He was successful at both ends of the ice, as Dries led all NCHC players with 21 blocked shots over the month. He also led the conference with 106 face-off wins.

On the year, Dries has 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in 32 games.
