The Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League announced today that Grandville captain Connor Fischer is this year’s recipient of the David Mannino College Scholarship associated with the league’s Prep Hockey Showcase.

Fischer received a check for $1,000 from the MIHL to apply to his first year of tuition at the United States Military Academy.

“I would like to thank first and foremost, the MIHL and the family of David Mannino for providing this opportunity – it is a great honor to represent in a small way the legacy of David and the life he lived,” Fischer said. “I would also like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for the years of support while playing hockey.”

Fischer maintains a 4.10 GPA at Grandville High School while also serving as president of the GHS Executive Council and taking part in the National Honor Society. He also volunteers with the Leadership Group at St. Pius X.

“I was very proud to hear that Connor was the winner of the 2017 Mannino Scholarship,” said Grandville coach Joel Breazeale. “Connor Fischer is a balanced, focused and driven young person.  He truly stands out among the best young people our community and country has to offer.  He excels in the classroom, the athletic arenas and the community.”

The Mannino Scholarship, a privately funded scholarship, honors the life of David Mannino – it was renamed from the MIHL Showcase Scholarship in his honor.

“David’s life exemplified the goals and objectives of the scholarship – he was a student athlete and a young man with great moral character,” said MIHL President Andy Weidenbach.
