The U.S. Women’s National University Team finished third in the 2017 Winter World University Games, as the team went out on a high note.

The team wrapped up the event in Kazakhstan with a 3-0 victory over China. Cedar Springs native Kendra Myers had a big hand in it, too, as she potted the game-winning goal 1:24 into the third period, with an assist going to Washington, Mich. native Rachael Booth. Maddie Wolsmann (Michigan State) scored with 1:41 left in the game to seal the game at 3-0.

Amber Greene earned the shutout for Team USA with a 28-save outing.

“I’m very proud of this team,” head coach Shelley Looney told USA Hockey after the game. “We’ve come so far in such a short period of time and we couldn’t have asked for a better performance here in our final game.”

With the win, the U.S. finished in third place for the second time in the past three Winter World University Games, with the other instance being the 2013 event in Trentino, Italy.
