NMU goaltender Atte Tolvanen ties NCAA record with fifth straight shutout

Atte Tolvanen’s placing himself firmly in the goaltending record books for the NCAA.

The Northern Michigan netminder recorded his fifth straight shutout tonight with a 2-0 victory over Alaska.

In a performance that featured a career-high 48 saves for the native of Vihti, Finland, Tolvanen tied Lake Superior State’s Blaine Lacher for the NCAA men’s hockey record in consecutive shutouts, which Lacher set in 1993-94.

Tolvanen hasn’t been scored on for 335:39. He has made an astonishing 207 consecutive saves.
