Dearborn native Jeremy Smith makes NHL debut with Avalanche

They say patience is a virtue.

It has paid off for 27-year-old Jeremy Smith.

The Dearborn native finally made his NHL debut last night after spending eight years in the minors.

Smith, a Plymouth Whalers alum, stopped 37 shots in his first time between the pipes for an NHL contest. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a 3-2 loss for his club, but Smith certainly wasn’t at fault.

“I thought he was fantastic,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said after the game, via the Denver Post. “He was our best player by a country mile.”
