Boys High School Hockey Players of the Week: Feb. 6-12 (presented by Lawrence Tech Hockey)

TheHS Hockey coverage Michigan High School Hockey Coaches’ Association and Lawrence Tech Hockey have teamed up to create players of the week and players of the month awards, and they have formed a selection committee to help with the process.

Each week, the committee members will take the top nominated players by their respective coaches and high school programs and rank the individual performances. From there, players will be selected from their respective divisions as ‘players of the week.’

MiHockey’s Michael Caples and Stefan Kubus are two of the committee members.

Announced Wednesday, here are the latest Lawrence Tech Hockey High School Players of the Week (for games played from Feb. 6-12). Winners per region are in bold, honorable mentions are in italics.

 

North Region: Fletcher Bolda, Junior Goaltender Big Rapids

Bolda came up huge for the Carindals stopping 27 of 28 shots in a 2-1 win over Cheboygan. The senior netminder would stop 32 of 34 shots to lead Big Rapids to a 3-2 win over (#7 D2) Forest Hills Northern-Eastern.

Honorable Mention: Barrett Bishop (Sr. Forward, Traverse City Central), Lance Kangas (Sr. Forward, Hancock)

 

South Region: Sean Finstrom, Senior Goaltender, Novi-Detroit Catholic Central

Finstrom blanked (#10 D1) Grandville to help the Shamrocks earn a 4-0 victory. Sean also stopped 16 of 17 shots in a 3-1 win over (#5 D2) Livonia Stevenson to help Novi-Detroit Catholic Central go 2-0 on the week.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Wilson (Sr. Forward, Ann Arbor Skyline), Tom Raupp (Sr. Forward, Saline)

 

Central Region: Luke Trombley, Senior Defenseman, Midland

Luke Trombley had the hot stick for the Chemics scoring a point on all 5 Midland goals in their 5-2 win over FNV. Trombley finished the night with 2 goals, 3 assists, and a +4 rating.

Honorable Mention: Brendan Holbrook (Sr. Forward, Midland Dow), Stephen Ward-Brown (Sr. Goaltender, Grand Ledge Fowlerville)

 

West Region: Nick Workman, Senior Forward, Grand Rapids Christian

Nick Workman had a huge week for Grand Rapids Christian scoring 3 goals and 3 assists in two games. Workman led GRC to victories over (#10 D3) East Grand Rapids (3-1) and Kenowa Hills (10-2).

Honorable Mention: Zach Currie (Sr. Forward, Forest Hills Central), Garrett Reames (Sr. Defenseman, Reeths-Puffer)

 

Metro East Region: Josh Frketich, Senior Defenseman, Lake Orion

Senior Defenseman Josh Frketich led the Dragons to a 4-0 victory over Farmington by scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. Later in the week, the blueliner would score 1 goal and 1 assist in a 6-3 win over Berkley Unified.

Honorable Mention: Thomas Supal (Jr. Forward, Grosse Pointe North), Adam Cervone (Senior Defenseman, Grosse Pointe South)

 

Metro West Region: Brett Miller, Senior Goaltender, Northville

Senior Brett Miller has earned player of the week honors for a second week in a row due to his stellar play between the pipes. Miller stopped 25 of 27 shots to help the Mustangs defeat KLAA Division rival (#1 D1) Brighton 3-2. The puck stopper would have an even bigger game against (#10 D2) Salem when he stopped 29 of 30 shots in a 3-1 win.

Honorable Mention: Will Tragge (Jr. Goaltender, Livonia Stevenson), Cam Newton (Senior Forward, Walled Lake Western)

 

Metro North Region: Connor McGinnis, Senior Defenseman, Detroit Country Day

McGinnis led the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 week by scoring 2 goals and 3 assists. Detroit Country Day defeated University Liggett 3-1 and Romeo 3-1.

Honorable Mention: Robert Kowalczyk (Sr. Goaltender, Notre Dame Prep), Nick Councilor (Jr. Forward, Royal Oak)

 

Metro South Region: Joey Cullinan, Senior Forward, Allen Park

Joey Cullinan led Allen Park to a 2-0 record by having a huge week. Cullinan scored 3 goals and 1 assist in a 6-2 victory over Gibraltar Carlson. The senior sniper continued his big week by scoring 1 goal and 3 assists in a 8-0 win over Southgate Anderson.

Honorable Mention: Graham Dallas (Jr. Goaltender, Dearborn Unified), Michael Faremouth (Sr. Defenseman, Brownstown Woodhaven)
