Western Michigan locked up a talented midget minor forward this week when Jacob Badal verbally committed to the Broncos’ hockey program.

Badal, a native of Flushing and forward on the Honeybaked 16U team, told MiHockey he had a variety of reasons for picking Western Michigan as his college of choice.

“I picked WMU for several reasons because the school has so much to offer,” Badal said. “First the campus is great. They have a good blend of history and updated technology available. Next would be the coaches and the facilities. It is a very family and team-oriented school. I liked that.

“Everyone was so helpful and informative.”

The Flushing native likes knowing he won’t be skating too far from home when he starts his NCAA career.

“It is a great hockey school, but it is close to my home and family in Flushing,” said Badal, who has seven points in 17 High Performance Hockey League games this season. “WMU offers a business degree which is what I am looking for.”

He said he’s also been impressed with the Lawson Lunatics; Badal wants to be a part of the excitement involved with college hockey.

“I really like college hockey for the atmosphere – at WMU it is in a class of its own! The student section is always packed and involved in the game. And the conference that WMU plays in is one of the best in the country.”
