Boys High School Hockey Players of the Week: Nov. 21-Dec. 4 (presented by Lawrence Tech Hockey)

TheHS Hockey coverage Michigan High School Hockey Coaches’ Association and Lawrence Tech Hockey have teamed up to create new players of the week and players of the month awards, and they have formed a selection committee to help with the process.

Each week, the committee members will take the top nominated players by their respective coaches and high school programs and rank the individual performances. From there, players will be selected from their respective divisions as ‘players of the week.’

MiHockey’s Michael Caples and Stefan Kubus are two of the committee members.

Announced Wednesday, here are the latest Lawrence Tech Hockey High School Players of the Week (for games played from Nov. 21-Dec. 4). Winners per region are in bold, honorable mentions are in italics.

 

North Region: Alex Nordstrom, Sophomore Forward, Hancock

Nordstrom had a monster start to the season while leading defending Division-III State Champion, Hancock to a 4-0 record. Hancock defeated rival Calumet (D3 #3) twice, Houghton (D3 #6), and Traverse City Central. Nordstrom would score 6 goals and 6 assists while going +11 in his first four games.

Honorable Mention: Drew Wotta (Sr. Forward, Big Rapids), Jacob Kruse (Sr. Forward, Houghton)

 

South Region: Jake Crespi, Senior Forward, Brighton

Crespi is off to a great start to the season, scoring 4 goals and 6 assists in Brighton’s first five games. Brighton is currently ranked #1 in D-I with victories over U of D-Jesuit (D1 #4), Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (D1 #8), Livonia Stevenson (D2 #2), and Salem.

Honorable Mention: Robby Lefere (Jr. Forward, Jackson Lumen Christi), Dallas Klaasen (Sr. Defenseman, Saline)

 

Central Region: Austin Kantola, Senior Defenseman, Howell

Austin scored 2 goals and 2 assists while going +4 in games against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, Grand Blanc, and Hartland (D2 #1). The Highlanders went 2-1 in this span with their only loss coming to the #1 team in the State, Hartland.

Honorable Mention: Garrett Johnson (Sr. Defenseman, Flint Powers), Sam Spaedt (Sr. Forward, Saginaw Heritage)

 

West Region: Bradley Strabel, Junior Forward, East Kentwood

Strabel was on fire in East Kentwood’s first four games, scoring 3 goals and 6 assists while going +5.

Honorable Mention: Mike Malewitz (Jr. Forward, East Grand Rapids), Nicko Withey (Sr. Forward, Forest Hills Central)

 

Metro East Region: Jordan Guske, Senior Forward, Anchor Bay

Guske was an offensive force for Anchor Bay to start the season. The Senior Forward scored 8 goals and 10 assists while going +13. Jordan had a point on 18 of 23 goals scored by Anchor Bay.

Honorable Mention: Sean Detloff (Jr. Defenseman, University of Liggett), TJ Hirschfield (Jr. Forward, Lake Orion)

 

Metro West Region: Will Tragge, Junior Goaltender, Livonia Stevenson

Will Tragge was a brick wall for Livonia Stevenson to start the season. Tragge stopped 94 of 99 shots faced while going 4-1-0 against tough competition, including a 1-0 shutout against Brother Rice (D2 #3). Tragge would also helped the Spartans defeat city-rival Livonia Churchill (D2 #7), Cranbrook (D1 #3), and South Lyon.

Honorable Mention: Tyler Haydu (Jr. Forward, Livonia Churchill), Tim Baldwin (Jr. Forward, Plymouth)

 

Metro North Region: Alex Lycett, Senior Forward, Cranbrook

Senior Forward Alex Lycett led Cranbrook (D1 #3) to a 4-1 record. Lycett led Cranbrook in scoring with three goals and 5 assists in five games. Cranbrook had victories over MIHL-rival Trenton (3-1), Calumet (6-5 and 5-3), and Salem (7-2).

Honorable Mention: Thomas Hernandez (Sr. Forward, Warren DeLaSalle), Henry Gabriel (Sr. Forward, Royal Oak)

 

Metro South Region: Blake Petterle, Junior Defenseman, Grosse Ile

Petterle was huge for Grosse Ile scoring 4 goals and 5 assists while leading the Devils to a 3-0 record. Grosse Ile defeated Chelsea (D3 #8), New Boston Huron, and Carlson.

Honorable Mention: Kyle Lucas (Sr. Defenseman, Trenton), Zach Robinson (So. Forward, Brownstown Woodhaven)
