Freshman forward Will Lockwood has already been an impact player for the Michigan offense this season.

And on Tuesday, he earned the first Big Ten weekly honor of his collegiate career.

Lockwood was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after a productive weekend against Michigan Tech. The Bloomfield Hills native and USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program alum recorded a pair of multi-point games as the Wolverines defeated and tied the Huskies in the weekend series. On Friday, after he already potted an assist earlier in the game, Lockwood’s shorthanded goal in the final minute of regulation stood up as the game-winning tally.

On Saturday, he added another goal and assist for good measure en route to the Big Ten honor.

Lockwood, a third-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in 2016, has tallied three goals and six points through five games in his first collegiate campaign thus far.

Not to be outdone, Ohio State’s Nick Schilkey – a Marysville native – was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week for leading the conference with three goals and tying for the point lead (four). Schilkey, a senior, helped the Buckeyes sweep Bowling Green in a home-and-home series, scoring once Friday and netting a pair on Saturday.

The weekly honor marks the fifth of his career and first of the 2016-17 season.
