Per multiple reports, the Red Wings have added another forward via free agency.

According to Gord Miller of TSN and Dan Rosen on the NHL Network, the Wings have landed Thomas Vanek with a one-year deal for $2.6 million.

Vanek was bought out by the Minnesota Wild this offseason.

In 817 career NHL games, the native of Vienna, Austria, has scored 316 goals and 333 assists for 649 points during time with the Sabres, Islanders, Canadiens and Wild.

A Minnesota Golden Gopher alum, Vanek was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft.

The Wild used the buyout option to get out of Vanek’s $6.5 million per season contract.

Last season, Vanek posted 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points in 74 games – not terrible numbers, but not good for someone signed to that type of contract.
