The Red Wings and Maple Leafs old-timers will get a rematch.

Per an announcement by Toronto today regarding the club’s 100th anniversary, the Leafs have announced that there will be an alumni game included in the NHL Centennial Classic outdoor hockey event with the Wings.

Detroit’s current Red Wings squad will take on the Maple Leafs on Jan. 1, 2017 at BMO Field in Toronto for the inaugural Centennial Classic, one of the events being staged to celebrate 100 years of the National Hockey League (and the Leafs).

The Toronto announcement says that the Leafs will be wearing special uniforms for both the NHL game and the alumni game, which means it’s safe to assume the Wings will be sporting unique jerseys, as well.

The two Original Six franchises played in two alumni games – the Alumni Showdown as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival – at Comerica Park in Detroit in 2013 as a lead-in to the 2014 NHL Winter Classic in Ann Arbor.
