Oxford native Adam Chapie has been away from Michigan for a while, and it’s a good thing he won’t be returning home on a permanent basis for the foreseeable future.

That’s because Chapie, a UMass-Lowell four-year letterwinner, has signed with the New York Rangers.

The 24-year-old forward – a Lake Orion High School product – was an undrafted free agent at the conclusion of his NCAA career. He posted 35 points in 39 games during his senior season with the River Hawks.

“Adam Chapie has signed an NHL contract with the NY Rangers,” River Hawks head coach Norm Bazin said in a release from UMass-Lowell. “He had a tremendous career at UMass Lowell and developed into a dangerous offensive threat in Hockey East. I’m very excited for Adam to continue his hockey career with an original six franchise. He developed consistently over his college career and there’s no question the best is yet to come. We wish him the best as he begins his professional hockey career.”

The Oxford native recorded 95 points and a career +16 rating in 148 games with UMass-Lowell. Prior to NCAA hockey, Chapie skated for the New Mexico Mustangs of the NAHL for two seasons.
