The WCHA has announced their players of the month, and the awards are going to Michigan residents.

Pinckney native Dominik Shine of Northern Michigan is the conference’s player of the month, it was announced today. Meanwhile, Lake Superior State forward Gage Torrel has been named the WCHA’s rookie of the month.

Shine posted a league-best 11 points in February, helping NMU to a 5-2-1 record in the timeframe. His big month put the Wildcats into position for home ice in the first round of the WCHA playoffs.

Shine posted at least one point in all eight February games for the Wildcats, and enters March with a nine-game point streak. He is tied for third overall in the WCHA in scoring with 29 points on the season.

Meanwhile, Torrel led all WCHA freshmen with seven points as the Lakers clinched a playoff berth with a 3-1-0 run to conclude the month. Torrel, a native of Monticello, Minn., tied for fifth in all of the WCHA in points during the month.
