The WCHA has announced its players of the week list, and two Wildcats have been honored.

Mathias Dahlstrom and James Vermeulen have been named the conference’s defensive player and rookie of the week, respectively.

Dahlstrom, a senior netminder from Smedjebacken, Sweden, stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced this past weekend, leading NMU into fourth place in the conference with a sweep of Alabama Huntsville. He remains perfect on the season, having increased his season record to 6-0-0 since returning from an injury on Jan. 16. Dahlstrom stopped 19 shots in a 3-0 shutout victory on Friday, then stopped 14 in a 3-1 victory on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Dahlstrom got a little help from Vermeulen, who was named rookie of the week after finishing the weekend with a +2 rating and scoring his first career goal on Friday. Vermeulen is a native of Stony Plain, Alberta, and he now has two points in 27 games this season.
