The big guns for the Boston Bruins showed up on Saturday when they skated to a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden.

After a first period where the Wings only had five shots on goal, the Bruins seemed to take the game over.

Boston scored three goals in the second period and put the game seemingly out of reach. Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Torey Krug all scored for the Bruins in that frame.

Bergeron opened the scoring 7:18 into the second period when he snapped a wrist shot that caught Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek in the shoulder and shot a few feet up into the air and over his head into the net.

Mrazek made 28 saves on the night, but he got beat again a few minutes later when Krejci made a nice move to the inside on Jakub Kindl and fired a shot under Mrazek’s blocker to put the Bruins up by two.

Krug, a Livonia native and Michigan State alumnus, capped off the second period scoring frenzy for the Bruins when he took a beautiful centering pass on a 2-on-1 from Brad Marchand. The Bruins went to the locker room with a 3-0 lead.

Tuukka Rask was the games first star, stopping 22 of Detroit’s 23 shots.

The Red Wings—losers of two straight—scored a power-play goal in the third period when Justin Abdelkader buried a backhand after a miscue by the Bruins defense left him wide open on the doorstep.

After just 13 shots through two periods, the Wings dug themselves too big of a hole to get out of.  They continue to struggle to get shots on goal, ranking last in the league with 25.3 shots per game.

Detroit was also credited with 19 giveaways on the night.

After losing three of their last four games, Detroit looks to get back on track on Monday when they travel to Ottawa.
