The WCHA announced their weekly stars today, and two of them have Michigan ties.

The conference’s rookie of the week went to Kurt Gosselin, a Brighton, Mich., native. Gosselin, a rookie defenseman at Alabama Huntsville, tied for the WCHA lead with four points over the weekend, recording two goals and two assists to lead the Chargers to a sweep over Lake Superior State.

The Brighton native scored twice in the third period on Friday to even the score 4-4 for his Chargers club. On Saturday, he recorded two assists while UAH recorded its first shutout since 2010.

Meanwhile, Northern Michigan’s Atte Tolvanen continued his impressive 2015-16 season, turning aside 80 of the 81 shots he faced to record one tie and a win against Bemidji State. The freshman from Finland stopped 46 in a scoreless tie on Friday – his first career shutout – and then he stopped 34 in a 3-1 win the next night. His .988 save percentage and 0.44 goals-against average were both tops in the nation (for goaltenders who started both games).
