Movember at Michigan

By Michael Caples –

The University of Michigan men’s ice hockey team officially announced today that they will be starting a new initiative called Michigan Moustaches for Men’s Health this November.

Michigan players and staff – including head coach Red Berenson – will grow moustaches during the month to raise awareness for men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer.

Juniors Mike Chiasson and Alex Guptill suggested the moustache idea at the start of the season, both to encourage team bonding and give back to the community.

“We felt as a team that Michigan has given us so much, and this was a great opportunity to give back,” Chiasson said in a release. “We want to leave a legacy here, not just for what we do on the ice. We hope that this is a tradition that continues year-after-year.”

Yesterday, the Michigan players shaved off their facial hair in preparation for the Movember activities. Weekly updates will e posted on MGoBlue.com to chart the players’ progress.

Fans are encouraged to interact with the Movember effort by using #GROWBlue on Twitter.
