Luke Glendening is about to take another step in his rise through the pro hockey ranks.

The Red Wings announced today that the Grand Rapids native has been recalled from the Griffins, and that he will make his NHL debut with the Red Wings tomorrow night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Glendening will center the Red Wings’ fourth line.

Earlier today, the Red Wings assigned goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Cory Emmerton to Grand Rapids. They also removed goaltender Jonas Gustavsson from the injured reserve list.

Glendening, 24, went from walk-on to captain of the University of Michigan Wolverines during his collegiate career. He then joined the Grand Rapids Griffins after signing an AHL contract with the club.

After one season with the Wings’ AHL affiliate, Detroit signed the former high school star to a one-year contract on July 5.

Last season, Glendening recorded eight goals and 18 assists in 51 games with the Griffins, after earning a promotion from the Wings’ ECHL affiliate in Toledo. In Grand Rapids’ run to the AHL title, Glendening had six goals and 10 assists in 24 games.

The East Grand Rapids High School product – he also spent one season with the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut before joining the Wolverines – was only the eighth player in University of Michigan hockey history to wear the ‘C’ for multiple seasons.
