The Dan Cleary mystery has been solved.

The Red Wings announced today that they have re-signed the long-time Detroit forward to a one-year contract.

Cleary, 34, was rumored to be closing in on a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, and was expected to be on the ice for the Flyers’ first day of camp today.

Instead, he’s on his way to the Wings’ training camp in Traverse City.

Cleary will now spend his ninth season with the Original Six club, and the 15th season of his NHL career. The native of Carbonear, Newfoundland, has scored 119 goals and 265 points over 540 games with the Red Wings.

Last season, Cleary was only one of four Detroit players to skate in all 48 regular-season contests, recording 15 points. He also finished second on the team in postseason scoring, with 10 points in 14 games.

Cleary was a member of the 2008 Stanley Cup championship Red Wings squad, becoming the first Newfoundland native to win hockey’s greatest prize.
