Shaved Ice – August 28

How long do we have to wait for the Olympics to start?

We caught up with the majority of Michigan’s representatives at the U.S. Olympic camp earlier this week, and we talked to Team USA management about the state of the game in Michigan. Click here, or click the image below, to hear from the best hockey players our state has produced the last few years.

In other Olympics news, the Americans’ new jersey was unveiled yesterday (see below). Click the image to read more about the new uniforms.

Larry Lage of the Associated Press writes that Ryan Miller might be the odd man out for the goaltending spots on Team USA – as a Michigan-based publication, we kind of hope he’s wrong.

We also reported yesterday that former Wolverines goaltender Shawn Hunwick has announced his retirement; the 26-year-old will be joining the agency who represented him as a player.

The rosters have been announced for the 2013 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, which will be played on Sept. 26 in Pittsburgh. Four Michigan natives made the squads.

Team Canada has been holding their Olympic camp as well – here are TSN’s latest projections for who they think will represent Canada in Sochi.

There’s been a lot of talk about how Mike Babcock is using walk-throughs with his players this week at the Canada camp – in fact, apparently he reached out to MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo to find out how he runs walk-through practices for his own team.

NHL.com’s 10 sleepers to keep an eye on for your fantasy draft includes two Michigan natives – David Booth and Justin Abdelkader. Here’s to hoping they can both have big seasons.

This is less than four months away…

See you later today.
