Red Wings sign Drew Miller to three-year deal; Kindl signs, too

Drew Miller will be staying in the Mitten for a while.

The Red Wings officially announced that they re-signed the East Lansing native to a three-year contract today. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

The deal was first reported by the Detroit Free Press’ Helene St. James on June 14, who wrote that Miller will make $4.05 million over the three-year contract.

“It feels great,” Miller told the Free Press. “I’m excited, my wife is excited, my family is excited. This is where I wanted to be. It’s a great organization, great coaching staff, great bunch of guys. We have a lot of talent in the locker room, and I believe we’ll be a very good team next year.”

Miller, 29, had four goals and four assists in 44 games during the Red Wings’ shortened regular season. A hand injury limited the former Michigan State Spartan to six postseason games.

The East Lansing native is counted on for his play in his team’s own end; Miller is one of the Red Wings’ top penalty-killers and defensive forwards. Yet he also set a career high with 14 goals in the 2011-12 season.

Four more for Kindl

The Red Wings also announced that they have signed Jakub Kindl to a four-year deal.

Kindl, 26, had the best season of his career in 2013, recording four goals and nine assists for 13 points in only 41 games.

In his first postseason experience, Kindl recorded one goal and four assists in 14 games. He also held a +4 rating.

Kindl has seven goals and 23 assists in 147 career NHL games, along with a +14 rating.
