Shaved Ice – May 22

Press day edition of Shaved Ice.

We’re grinding out the latest issue of MiHockeyMag right now – emphasis on the drafts that just happened, and the big draft that’s coming up. Love this time of year.

The Grand Rapids Griffins have survived the second round. The Wings’ AHL affiliate beat the Toronto Marlies last night, mounting a third-period comeback, to take their semifinal series in six games. Next up – the Oklahoma City Barons.

Luke Glendening had the game-winner for the Griffins, by the way. For that, and because he’s having an outstanding postseason for GRG, he’s our Michi-gamer today.

Craig Custance of ESPN tweeted that Danny DeKeyser is expecting to get his cast off today. Great news for the Red Wings’ defenseman…maybe he can get back into the line-up before the end of the season, after all.

Detroit will hold a “Fill A Boot” fundraiser during tomorrow’s game, with all funds donated to the Westland Fire Fighters Charity’s fund for the family of fallen firefighter Brian Woehlke, who passed away while battling a Westland fire on May 8. If you’re going to the game, chip in.

Game 6 highlights.

Griffins’ post-game interviews after clinching a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

Penguins and Senators tangle in Game 4 tonight. Pittsburgh could take a 3-1 series lead, Ottawa could even the series.

The Sharks evened their series with the Kings last night – here’s the NHL.com game recap of that one.

Meanwhile, the Bruins now have a commanding 3-0 lead on the Rangers. Torey Krug didn’t even need to get a point in their Game 3 win, either.

Former Michigan Tech defenseman Andy Sutton is hanging up his skates after a 15-year NHL career.

Soon-to-be restricted free agent Alex Burmistrov wants out of Winnipeg, according to a report by the Winnipeg Free Press.

Still no word out of Colorado about Patrick Roy being the Avs’ next bench boss.

Love these ads.

See you later.
