Shaved Ice – April 17

Red Wings vs. Flames tonight.

Last night was our 21st annual “Banquet of Champions” to celebrate all the youth hockey state champions. Thanks to everybody who came to Laurel Manor to celebrate with us. We’ll have some photos posted shortly.

The Red Wings take on the Calgary Flames tonight. Detroit’s currently clinging to that last playoff spot in the West.

The big news yesterday was that Jimmy Howard officially inked a six-year extension with the Wings. What are your thoughts on the signing? He’s never been the most welcomed goaltender in Hockeytown, that’s for sure.

Belle Tire Midget Minor forward Ryan Moore has officially signed with the Windsor Spitfires. See the list of all the Michigan players drafted by OHL clubs right here.

After a nasty cut, Ryan Hartman thinks he can be back in the Whalers’ line-up much sooner than expected. Plymouth’s preparing to take on London in a huge conference finals showdown.

Let’s watch the top six plays from the final CCHA season. Because we can.

The Wings and Leafs won’t be the only teams involved in a Winter Classic-like game next year. Multiple reports indicate that the league will have six different outdoor games. Thoughts? I’m concerned…outdoor games are already taking place too often.

The Islanders’ Keith Aucoin wrote ‘Pray for Boston’ on his skate…see the picture here. The hockey community sure is a special one, as we all rally around the city in the wake of a terrible tragedy. The Bruins play a big role in helping the city through tough times – here’s an article from NHL.com on the subject.

Kevin Lowe got into some hot water for his remarks about Oilers fans…see what he did here.

Not hockey, but amazing nonetheless. The Yankees played their rival’s unofficial theme song during their game yesterday to show support for Boston.

We’ll see you around at some point.
