Shaved Ice – March 8

Let the games begin.

We’ve got quite the weekend ahead of us.

Tonight marks the beginning of the CCHA playoffs for the final time. Here are the match-ups we’ll be following this weekend:

  • Northern Michigan at Michigan
  • Michigan State at Alaska
  • Bowling Green at Lake Superior
Get ready for the tournament with our CCHA playoff preview.
Then, tomorrow, we crown some new state champions for high school hockey at Compuware in Plymouth. Here’s the schedule:
  • Division 1 – 6 p.m.
  • Division 2 – 10 a.m.
  • Division 3 – 2 p.m.

Sunday, we have a whole ‘nother group of state champions, this time at the youth level. We’ll be focused on the Tier 1 and Tier 2 girls’ championship games, but will keep you posted on as many scores as we can for one of the biggest weekends of the hockey season.

Oh yeah, then Red Wings on Sunday.

Speaking of the Wings, we were at the game last night, click on the pic below to see our photo gallery. Plus, between TV spots, Darren Eliot penned (OK, typed) a new ‘Special DElivery‘ about their win over the Oilers. Also, check out this piece from the Wings’ Bill Roose about Muskegon native Justin Abdelkader, who broke out of his goal-scoring slump last night.

Highlights from the Wings’ win last night:

Ryan Getzlaf just got paid. The Ducks’ leader inked a eight-year deal worth an average of $8.25 million per season. Not bad.

The NHLPA has given consent to the realignment plans. Next roadblock – the Board of Governors. Get it done, fellas. Get it done.

A player was paralyzed in a Swiss League playoff game earlier this week…Puck Daddy shared the video, which can be seen below.

MiHockey’s first GIF. We hope you like watching Pavel Datsyuk make Ryan Nugent-Hopkins fall over.

We’ll be at Yost tonight, along with keeping an eye on the Spartans and the Lakers. And we’ll be all over the place this weekend.
