Shaved Ice – March 22

Biggest CCHA weekend of the year coming up.

Tonight’s the CCHA Awards show, tomorrow’s the semifinals, and Sunday the CCHA crowns their final playoff champion. Needless to say, we’re going to be spending a lot of time in Detroit this weekend.

Here’s a list of the nominees up for awards tonight. Lots of Michigan connections involved – we like that around the MiHockey offices.

The Wolverines take on the Miami RedHawks in the second CCHA semifinal tomorrow – click here for our article about the big game.

The Red Wings start their latest West Coast road trip tonight with a game against the red-hot Anaheim Ducks at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

The Whalers take on the Sarnia Sting in the first round of the OHL playoffs, starting tonight at Compuware Arena.

Check out CCHA Now to get ready for the big weekend.

Martin Brodeur scored a goal last night. Not as cool as the shot down the ice towards an empty net, but cool nonetheless. As if he doesn’t have enough on his Hall-of-Fame resume, he now has the all-time lead for goals scored.

NHL.com ranks the top eight defensemen in the NHL right now – Zdeno Chara takes the top spot.

Alex Kovalev has officially retired.

Dirty hit from Rick Nash, of all people…

Patrick Kane gets the NHL ’94 treatment. Nice.

We’ll be all over the CCHA Championship weekend. Don’t you worry.
