Rough night for the Red Wings last night, as the Flames rolled into town to disappoint a JLA crowd with a 4-1 win. Former Wolverines star Mike Cammalleri had helpers on the first two goals, by the way. Recap from The Joe, written by yours truly, right here.

Cammalleri wasn’t the only Michigan connection to have two helpers last night. Traverse City native and Ferris State alum Zach Redmond picked up two assists, and they happened to be on the game-tying and game-winning goals for the Winnipeg Jets. That makes him our Michi-gamer of the night.

Our latest from East Lansing talks about how the Spartans’ veteran leaders called a team meeting to figure out how MSU can pull out of their current funk. Don’t worry, Wolverines fans, we have something coming for you in a little while.

USA Hockey’s U-18 team started the Five Nations Tournament in Sweden with a 4-2 loss to Finland. Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) had both goals, while Sterling Heights native Evan Allen picked up an assist in the contest. Team USA is looking to regain control of the tournament; they won it four straight seasons from 2008-11.

The U-17 didn’t have any better luck, either; they dropped their first game of the Four Nations Tournament in Sweden to Team Russia in a shootout.

Speaking of USA Hockey – the one-year countdown to 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi has officially begun. Can’t wait.

A little disappointed that we hadn’t seen this yet. Check out the Clarkston High School hockey team’s commercial promoting their game last week. Love it, guys (thanks to Puck Daddy for the find).

J.T. Miller made his NHL debut last night with the New York Rangers, who lost to the Devils 3-1. Miller told the New York Post that he was pleased with his performance.

784 days, 20 NHL games, 140 penalty minutes, and 10 fighting majors for Philadelphia Flyers forward Tom Sestito between goals. The former Plymouth Whaler scorer hadn’t scored in the NHL in over two years before lighting the lamp twice last night. The Flyers beat the Lightning 2-1 and Sestito also recorded his first ever NHL game winning goal in the contest. He played a season high 8:08 in the victory and scored on both of his shots on goal.

The Jets are sending Mark Scheifele back to the Barrie Colts of the OHL.
